DEPARTING AUSTRALIA SUPERANNUATION PAYMENT - DASP

If you have already departed Australia, and your visa has been cancelled, you may be eligible to apply for the DASP - Departing Australia Superannuation Payment.

DASP is non-assessable, non-exempt income to the Client. However, it is still subject to a final DASP withholding tax.

Taxes: If you are on WHS (working holiday visa) 65% will be taxed from ATO to your super. For all other temporary visas, 35% will be taxed from ATO to your super

The amount of tax is withheld by the payer (either DASP or a Super fund) when the payment is made. This super payment or the tax is not to be included in the Client's tax return.

Booking your DASP consultation with us

Before or after you leave Australia we recommend you to book the DASP Consultation to check what you need to get prepared and to see how the process is done, for you to apply on your own.

How the DASP application works :

1. You will need to lodge an online DASP application at the ATO Agent Portal.

2. You will receive the ATO's confirmation by email.

3. The Superfund might ask you for documents (if applicable) that might be required to be certified and/or translated to English.

4. If you hold more than $5,000 AUD in your Super Fund, you will also need a Certificate of Immigration.

5. Once Superfund is satisfied with the application and makes the payment to you, ATO removes all data from the Portal and your Super account will be closed.

**This process might take a few months to be completed, depending of your current situation and the amount of super you have in your account.

Before you leave Australia:

  • Book the DASP consultation with us.

  • Keep your Australian Bank Account open till your get the refund from Superfund.

  • Make sure you can access your Superfund and to your bank account when you are overseas.

  • Get your passport copy certified with a JP (Justice of Peace) in English and you can leave it with us.

  • Log into your Superfund(s) account(s) and verify that your name is spelled correctly.

  • If you have multiple Super accounts, to save time and money, it's best to transfer into one account only.

Certification of Documents in English

An authorised certifier in the presence of the applicant should certify that each copy is a true and correct copy of the original document, by:

● sighting the original document

● stamping, signing and annotating the copy of the identity document to state ‘I have sighted the original document and certify this to be a true and correct copy of the original document sighted’

● initializing each page listing their name, date of certification, telephone number and position.

IMPORTANT: To find a JP to sign your document, ‘google JP near me’ and check their address and working times. This is a free of charge service offered in Australia.

**Who can certify documents abroad?

The following people are authorized to certify your identity documents outside Australia:

notary publics (after getting it recognised in your language, you can contact a NAATI translator to get it translated into English.
